New Getting Started Guide for the Additive Manufacturing Module

After previously releasing the two popular getting started guides for Thermo-Calc and the Diffusion Module (DICTRA), we wanted to create a guide for the new Additive Manufacturing Module, which was released in June 2023. If you are new to the Additive Manufacturing Module and want some guidance to start working with your calculations, this Additive Manufacturing Module Getting Started Guide is for you!

The guide includes easy-to-follow instructions on how to set up a common workflow in the Additive Manufacturing Module, which involves calculations using the Steady-State and Transient with heat-source from steady-state simulation modes in the Graphical Mode of Thermo-Calc.

About the Additive Manufacturing Module

The Additive Manufacturing Module (also referred to as the AM Module) was released in June 2023 as a part of the Thermo-Calc 2023b release. It is an Add-on Module to Thermo-Calc and is available in the Graphical Mode as the AM Calculator. The Additive Manufacturing Module was primarily designed for modeling the powder bed fusion process in Additive Manufacturing. The new module has 3 simulation modes: Steady-State, Transient, and Transient with heat-source from Steady-State.

Additional Guides Coming Soon!

The Getting Started Guide for the Additive Manufacturing Module is our third getting started guide. We also have guides for Thermo-Calc and the Diffusion Module (DICTRA). We are also working on developing more guides for our Add-On Modules, such as the Precipitation Module (TC-PRISMA) and the Process Metallurgy Module.

We want all of our users to get the most out of our products and be able to use all of their functionalities. Therefore, we are continuously working on creating content to help our users learn about our tools. We are working on creating video tutorials for the AM Module, and we will release a webinar about the module during the fall of 2023. Keep up with our webinars page for more information about upcoming webinars.

All Thermo-Calc installations include example files. The Graphical Mode examples are available for Thermo‑Calc and the Add-on Modules. The example files for the Additive Manufacturing Module are found by navigating to the Help menu > Example Files… > Additive Manufacturing.

If you are new to the Thermo-Calc software, read our Getting Started Guide for Thermo-Calc to learn all the basics of Thermo-Calc.

We hope you’ll enjoy the guide!
