Sales and Technical Support Specialist

Thermo-Calc Software is a growing enterprise that is a global leader in the development of software and databases for computational materials science and engineering. Our products are used for both fundamental and applied research, such as the design of new alloys, optimization of processing conditions, prediction of material properties, etc. Our flagship software, Thermo-Calc, is licensed to more than 1700 organizations in 60+ countries. Our headquarters are located in Stockholm, Sweden, and fully owned subsidiaries operate in Pittsburgh, USA and Seoul, S. Korea.

Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join our Customer Relations team as a full time Sales and Technical Support Specialist to primarily provide pre-sales and post-sales support for our range of software products and databases under the direction of the Sales and Support Manager. The Sales and Technical Support Specialist is focused on matching existing and potential end user needs with the right product offerings, as well as serving as front-line technical support. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Respond to sales inquiries for Thermo-Calc Software products
  • Be proactive in subscription renewal and upgrade opportunities for existing customers
  • Provide technical support related to licensing or software operability; documenting issues, resolution steps, and outcomes
  • Assist in preparing and providing presentations to current and prospective customers
  • Adopt current processes and procedures and seek opportunities for improvement
  • Participate in meetings as requested

As the candidate becomes more familiar with the use and application of CALPHAD tools, opportunities for growth include taking on responsibilities such as:

  • Participate in review of sales records and reports for internal reporting
  • Provide input into current trends in sales
  • Provide support to delivery of internal business objectives
  • Assist in identifying new opportunities for growth in software applications
  • Assist in identifying new training content based on technical support history
  • Organization of customer outreach events
  • Travel as needed to conferences

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to listen and ask clarifying questions
  • Attention to detail and accountable for assigned tasks
  • Experience in data analysis in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Desire to learn new things and continuously improve processes and performance
  • Ability to leverage outside expertise in solving problems
  • Can manage multiple priorities and seeks understanding of priorities from sales manager
  • Have foundational knowledge of materials science or metallurgy
  • Demonstrates self-awareness towards improving personal performance
  • Undergraduate degree in materials science or related field
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in materials science or related field
  • Previous experience with computational tools related to CALPHAD and/or ICME
  • Basic use of Python and/or MATLAB

Materials Structure-Property Model Specialist

Our flagship software, Thermo-Calc, is licensed to more than 1700 organisations in approximately 70 countries. Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join our Structure-based Materials Property team based in Stockholm and will be working on the development of quantitative models for predicting materials properties that are dependent on materials structures.

Responsibilities includes:

  • Development and implementation of both new and existing models connecting structure and mechanic properties of materials.
  • Working in the entire project process, including conceptualization, analysis, design, implementation, testing, refinement, verification, and validation.
  • Collaborating with our Data group and other software development teams to efficiently build the model into our software products.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduate degree (PhD or equivalent) in Materials or Mechanical Science and Engineering.
  • Enjoying team work and demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and deep understanding of structure-mechanical property relationship of materials.
  • Excellent track record in modelling structure-based mechanical properties of materials.
  • Programming experience in Python, Java, or other programming language.
  • Strong communication skills.

It is also meritorious if you have experience or interest in any of the following:

  • Mathematics and/or Numerical methods
  • Thermodynamic and /or kinetic modelling using CALPHAD tools
  • Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence

Proficiency in English, both written and spoken language, is required.
