Materials CALPHAD Database Developer (Stockholm, Sweden)

Responsibilities 

As a Materials CALPHAD Database Developer, you will lead or join a specific project to develop materials databases for thermodynamic, kinetic, and property calculations using the CALPHAD approach together with other methods, such as DFT. You will work independently and in teams, creating completely new databases or further improving existing ones that are critical to our business. You will take part in supporting and educating our clients for maximizing the impact of our products in materials research and production.

Qualifications 

  • Strong competence in CALPHAD modelling. We believe you have a doctorate degree in material science or similar with extensive research experience in CALPHAD assessments.
  • Proficient in using Thermo-Calc software package (or similar ones).
  • Excellent track record in thermodynamic and/or kinetic modelling and assessments.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

It will be a great advantage if you have knowledge and experience of ab-initio calculations, machine learning, or computer programming. You should be self-directed, used to working independently, and capable of handling parallel tasks. You are expected to enjoy teamwork.

Technical Sales and Applications Consultant (Pittsburgh, USA)

About the Position

We are expanding the team in our US subsidiary located in Pittsburgh, PA, and seek to hire a full time Technical Sales and Applications Consultant to primarily provide pre-sales and post-sales support for our range of software products and databases. We can be flexible on the start date, but preference may be given to those who can fill the position more quickly.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and potential end-use customers
  • Provide technical support and consulting based around client and potential-client needs
  • Proactively speak with existing or potential customers to understand their needs and identify suitable use cases of our software that would deliver value for them
  • Provide training and instruction on using the software to provide insight and solve industrial problems
  • Assist with developing on-line, self-paced learning modules
  • Prepare presentations for customer meetings and technical conferences
  • Lead web meetings, teleconferences, and face to face meetings with clients and prospects to answer technical questions, demonstrate our software, and advance sales opportunities
  • Assist with writing proposals, technical journal papers, preparation of case studies, and white papers
  • Attend trade shows and give conference technical presentations
  • Provide technical input to support strategic marketing activities, and product development

Requirements

  • Experience of using CALPHAD based tools is a must, ideally using Thermo-Calc Software’s products (Thermo- Calc, DICTRA, TC-PRISMA)
  • Master’s degree (minimum) / PhD (preferred) in materials science, mechanical engineering, or related field
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Good organization skills, able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Be able to travel (approx. 10-20%)
  • Have a strong interest in materials development and the deployment and application of computational tools in the field of ICME and MGI. Preference will be given to those with an in-depth understanding of process-structure and structure-property relationships in material systems with some practical knowledge and experience related to materials processing (e.g. casting, heat treating, welding, additive manufacturing, etc.) and characterization.
  • Some basic programming skills using Python and/or machine learning is desirable
  • Thermo-Calc Software Inc will consider those who are legally authorized to work in the United States
