The ADVANCE project came to its conclusion in June 2022. The project has successfully developed the next generation of advanced CALPHAD databases (one thermodynamic and a compatible kinetic database for atomic mobility) for TiAl alloys. The use of these databases in combination with the appropriate simulation software contributes to the ability to decrease costs and development time for TiAl alloy design, which ultimately contributes to the Clean Sky 2 environmental mandate of ‘’Smart, Green, Integrated Transport’’. The main result of the project is the important improvements to the Titanium and TiAl-based Alloys Database (TCTI5). These improvements support the design of TiAl alloys with an increased degree of accuracy and are also critical for the design of Ti-based alloys.

About the ADVANCE Project
The ADVANCE project consisted of an extensive and ambitious experimental program to generate detailed and accurate phase equilibrium data for a series of homogenous Ti-Al-X alloys of high purity, aiming to resolve existing experimental controversies and to determine missing data points of relevance, and ultimately support modeling activities consisting of assessing and re-optimizing individual subsystems and the development of cutting-edge CALPHAD databases for TiAl alloys.
The consortium consisted of four partners from three countries: Thermo-Calc Software AB (TCSAB), Sweden (Coordinator); Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung GmbH (MPIE), Germany; Helmholtz-Zentrum hereon GmbH (Hereon), Germany; and Montanuniversität Leoben (MUL), Austria.
