Additive Manufacturing Module (AM Module) Live Online Training

The AM Module live online training is a beginner’s course. No prior knowledge of the AM Module is required. The training course is planned over two half-days and includes a small amount of homework at the end of day 1.

Upcoming Courses

We currently have the following set of live online courses scheduled for the AM Module. We schedule online courses two to three times per year, so check back if the dates below do not work for you.

  • 23 – 24 April 2025|Online, broadcast from Stockholm, Sweden (CEST Time Zone)
  • Course information coming soon for Pittsburgh, USA

The AM Module Course: Stockholm Broadcast

What You Will Learn

The Additive Manufacturing Module (AM Module) is used for better understanding of the powder bed fusion-laser beam (PBF-LB) process by predicting the temperature distribution and melt pool geometry as a function of process parameters and using material properties calculated from Thermo-Calc thermodynamic and property databases. This course will cover a short background into the metal additive manufacturing (AM) process, effect of rapid solidification on microstructure development, defect generation during AM processing, and coupling of AM process to our other modules such as the Diffusion Module (DICTRA) and the Precipitation Module (TC-PRISMA).

The graphical user interface and functionality will be showcased with some application examples. Some prior knowledge of computational tools such as finite element modelling and computational thermodynamics and kinetics is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Good to Know

The training course is hands-on with each participant working at their own computer. Some of the presentations will be in the form of teacher-led exercises. The language is English. It is recommended that you use either two separate screens or one large screen in order to be able to follow the online teacher and operate the software at the same time. There will be possible interaction from students to teachers throughout the training, mostly through a chat-function rather than spoken dialog. In addition to this, special Q-and-A sessions will be scheduled each day.

Download information for our software tools will be sent out the week before the training, together with the digital course material (handouts and project/macro files).
