“I am very happy. When I look at the previous recipients, I feel proud to be among such a group of exceptional individuals. It is a recognition of the long-term efforts of my colleagues and me”, Prof. Ågren comments. “After years of experience, I am still interested in learning more. In general, I find that every time a look deeper into a problem, may it be an engineering or a scientific problem, I always get engaged and inspired.”
Prof. Ågren is one of the original developers of Thermo-Calc. Since 2017, he has been our Senior Scientific Adviser. His achievements over his active years have been acknowledged in many areas. He has been granted the TMS William Hume-Rothery Award, the NIMS award, and is included in the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Prof. Ågren’s achievements and immeasurable experience are further detailed here.
“I look forward to meeting my colleagues and friends around the world, and to discuss interesting matters. I am also longing to picking mushrooms with my family, now that autumn is here”, Prof. Ågren concludes.
The Gibbs Award was established in 2007 in the name of J. Willard Gibbs, one of America’s greatest theoretical scientists. The J. Willard Gibbs Phase Equilibria Award is endowed by QuesTek Innovations LLC. The 2021 Gibbs Award will be announced at the ASM Annual Awards Dinner on the 14 September 2021.
