Thermo-Calc 2022b Release Overview

Thermo-Calc 2022b Release Overview

Thermo-Calc 2022b was released in June and includes several improvements to our software and many new databases. In this webinar, the developers themselves will present what’s new in the 2022b release.

As of the 2022b release, the Process Metallurgy Module is available in both TC-Python and TC-Toolbox for MATLAB®, our two most powerful APIs. All functionality that was already available in the Graphical Mode version of the Process Metallurgy Module is now available in both of these APIs, including equilibrium calculations and kinetic process simulations. The core developer of the Process Metallurgy Module, Dr. Rettig, will present the power of the integration into our APIs including potential industrial applications.

A Ferrite model has been added to the Steel Model Library. This new model describes the thermodynamics and kinetics of grain-boundary ferrite transformation from austenite, and is incorporated into calculations of TTT and CCT diagrams. The core developer of the Steel Model Library, Dr. Yan, will present the new Property Model and its application.

The 2022b release also includes eight new and two updated databases, including the introduction of our first database for ultra-high temperature materials. One of the database developers, Dr. Lancelot, will present the main improvements of all new and updated databases included in this release.

Speakers:
Dr. Ralf Rettig, Head of Software Platform, Thermo-Calc Software
Dr. Jiayi Yan, Software Developer, Thermo-Calc Software
Dr. Carl-Magnus Lancelot, Database Developer, Thermo-Calc Software

Dr. Ralf Rettig
Head of Software Platform
Thermo-Calc Software AB

Ralf Rettig, Ph.D.

Ralf Rettig graduated in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Erlangen in Germany in 2006. He finished his PhD on modeling the precipitation of TCP-phases in nickel-based superalloys in 2010. After working as a group leader for high temperature materials at the University of Erlangen, he joined Thermo-Calc Software in Stockholm in 2016. Dr. Rettig is presently Head of Software Platform and has previously been working on a variety of projects, especially on the development of TC-Python and the Process Metallurgy Module. Dr. Rettig enjoys bringing software development and engineering together.

JiayiY-SocialMedia-Small

Dr. Jiayi Yan
Software Developer
Thermo-Calc Software AB

Jiayi Yan, Ph.D.

Jiayi Yan joined Thermo-Calc Software in 2017 and has worked on developing the Steel Model Library since then. His research mainly includes computational modeling of thermodynamics and kinetics of phase transformations in metallic alloys, and computational materials design based on CALPHAD and Materials Genome. Dr. Yan received his PhD from Northwestern University in the US and did postdoctoral research at KTH, Stockholm, before joining Thermo-Calc Software. He also worked at QuesTek Europe as a Materials Design Engineer.

Dr. Carl-Magnus Lancelot
Database Developer
Thermo-Calc Software AB

Carl-Magnus Lancelot, Ph.D.

After graduating as a Master in Materials Science & Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH in Stockholm, Sweden, Carl-Magnus pursued a PhD in computational thermodynamics, studying the Tellurium-induced corrosion of Stainless Steel in Generation IV Nuclear Reactors in a joint project between KTH and CEA Saclay, France. After finishing his PhD, he started working as a Developer of Thermodynamic Databases at Thermo-Calc Software in 2019. Dr. Lancelot works primarily on the maintenance and development of the Nickel-based superalloys database TCNI, in close collaboration with the main developer, Reza Naraghi.
