Use of Thermo-Calc Among Top Universities Increases

The QS World University Rankings by Subject have been announced for 2021, and this year 77 of 100 top universities that specialize in Materials Science use Thermo-Calc software and databases. This is the highest number of users on the list since we began tracking in 2017. Thermo-Calc Software has long supported universities and education, and we are proud to see that so many users are recognized as top Materials Science universities.

The annual QS World University Rankings by Subject are published by the British QS Quacquarelli Symonds, and they rank top universities all over the world in individual subject areas, covering 51 different subjects. Rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact. The purpose of the QS World University Rankings is to help prospective students to identify the leading universities in their chosen field.

Use Among Top Universities Increasing

Thermo-Calc Software has been tracking the number of users that make the annual list for several years now. In 2017, 70 of the top 100 universities in Materials Science were using Thermo-Calc software and databases. In 2019, the number increased slightly to 72. The number increased again this year, with 77 schools on the list using our tools. We are glad to see that the number of users that made the annual list continues to increase and we hope this list will help students interested in materials science find the right school for them.

Support for Academia

Thermo-Calc Software is very committed to academia. We offer a free Educational Package with accompanying educational material for teaching and learning thermodynamic and kinetic theory at an undergraduate level. We also sponsor and provide free versions of our software and databases for several summer schools. Additionally, the majority owner of Thermo-Calc Software is the non-profit foundation “Stiftelsen för Tillämpad Termodynamik” (STT), which supports research within the field of computational thermodynamics by distributing scholarships to young researchers active in the field.

Congratulations to all the universities who made the list in 2021.
