Thermo-Calc Now Offering ICME Modelling Services and Designed Alloys Services to the European Market

Thermo-Calc Software have partnered with the global leader in computational materials design, QuesTek Innovations, to offer Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) modelling services and novel materials design and development to the European market under the jointly founded company QuesTek Europe.

QuesTek is well known in the North American market for their proprietary Materials by Design® approach. Their success in designing and deploying novel materials was featured in a Materials Genome Initiative (MGI) case study sponsored by NIST. The case study details the rapid design of Ferrium M54® steel and deployment for a hook shank component for the U.S. Navy T-45 aircraft, demonstrating novel aerospace alloy commercialisation in a 4 year cycle.

Thermo-Calc Software have long considered offering design and development services, but we have maintained focus on developing our software and databases. This collaboration allows us to expand into design services by partnering with a world leader in the field while still maintaining our focus on our products.

Our CEO, Dr. Anders Engström, explained the decision by saying:

Over the years we have been approached by many companies that are interested in Thermo-Calc from a service based approach, but our focus has always been with our products. By partnering with QuesTek, we can now offer these highly sought after services without detracting from our main priority of developing powerful, relevant, high-quality software and databases for materials engineering applications.”

This is not the first time we have worked with QuesTek. In fact, we have a long-lasting collaborative relationship with them, most notably highlighted by our joint development in 2012 of the Precipitation Module (TC-PRISMA), which incorporates key models and algorithms from QuesTek’s PrecipiCalc® precipitation simulation software.
